Apple released a faulty update recently for all 3 of its operating systems -- iPad, iOS, and macOS -- that bricked a percentage of devices running them. The devices affected cannot be started, and recovery can present issues. Here is the backstory: "the two most important fixes come in iPadOS 18.0.1 and iOS 18.0.1. The iPad update fixes an issue that bricked a small number of recently released iPads (those running Apple's M4 chip). That problem caused Apple to quickly pull iPadOS 18 for those devices, so Thursday's iPadOS 18.0.1 release is actually the first time most users of those devices will be able to run iPadOS 18. On the iPhone side, Apple says it has addressed a bug that could sometimes cause the touchscreen to fail to register users' fingers." https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/10/no-more-bricked-ipads-apple-fixes-several-bugs-in-ios-ipados-macos-updates/ https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/10/samsung-update-bricks-phones-giving-harsh-reminder-of-data-backup-importance/ That bug left users unable to boot their phones and caused the loss of vital data they contained when the phones cannot be revived except with a factory reset. Users are urged to implement software routines to back up their data off the phone, such as cloud and other solutions." https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/10/no-more-bricked-ipads-apple-fixes-several-bugs-in-ios-ipados-macos-updates/ ![]() |
